Sri City’s Cultural Unit Srivani Celebrates 2nd Anniversary
Film historian SV Rama Rao illuminates the lyrical grandeur of Telugu mythological films

Hyderabad: Marking the 2nd anniversary of Sri City's spiritual and literary forum, Srivani, Cine Vignana Visarada awardee and renowned film historian S V Rama Rao delivered an engaging talk on the elegance of lyrics in Telugu mythological films on Thursday. The event saw participation from literary enthusiasts, employees, and guests from Sullurupeta, Tirupati, and Chennai.
Welcoming the gathering, Dr Ravindra Sannareddy, Founder and Managing Director of Sri City, highlighted Srivani's contributions to enriching the community through soulful bhajans, musical performances, and literary programs, establishing it as a vibrant cultural and spiritual hub. He felicitated Rama Rao and thanked him for accepting the invitation.
Rama Rao highlighted the extraordinary legacy of Telugu mythological films, renowned for their stunning visuals, devotional narratives, and lyrical poetry inspired by epics such as the Ramayana and Mahabharata. He praised the brilliance of lyricists like, Samudrala Raghavacharya, Samudrala Junior, Malladi Ramakrishna Sastry, Pingali Nagendra Rao, Sadasivabrahmam, Devulapalli Krishnasastry, Arudra, and C Narayana Reddy, among others, whose masterful verses have stood the test of time. Quoting iconic songs like Sri Seeta Ramula Kalyanam Chootamu Rarandi, Vinudu Vinudu Ramayana Gaadha, Siva Sankari and a few others Rama Rao illustrated how these compositions reflect profound spiritual and literary depth.
He highlighted how lyricists used evocative imagery—rivers, mountains, and stars—to delve into themes of dharma, love, and spiritual enlightenment. He also praised singers like Ghantasala, P Suseela, and P Leela for their contributions in immortalising these masterpieces. He lauded Ghantasala's brilliance as a composer and admired contemporary legends like M.M. Keeravani and Ilaiyaraaja for their masterful fusion of melody and philosophy, crafting enduring musical masterpieces. The event also saw the presence of distinguished guests, including former SVETA Director Bhuman and former Vice-Chancellor Prof Kusuma Kumari.
